Flowers on Friday

I spent a bit of time over the holidays looking at my digital photographs to see what flower photos I wanted to use for my Flowers on Friday series. One of the first ones I found was this photo of daylilies. I can't remember exactly where I took the photo but the colour brightened the gray day we are having here on the West Coast.

I realized that the flower colour is similar to the 2014 Colour of the Year, Orchid.

Are you planning to use this colour in a quilt this year?  I think I have some 'pinks' left from the quilt I made for my son and daughter-in-law that would work.

In my photo I see several greens, a small amount of yellow-gold and I just noticed the gray tones too. This could be an easy way to pull fabrics from my stash for a small project.

If you know me, you know I have a huge bin full of green fabrics!

Have you used a photograph to choose fabrics for a quilt?

Leave me a comment to tell me your story!

Have you seen this one before? It's great as a starting point for colour pulls.

Or this one lets you upload a photo then matches Kona solids to it.
