What's on my Table, Tuesday?

I have projects to finish but.....

can't wait to start URBANOLOGIE by Sew Kind of Wonderful.

I bought this Block of the Month pattern in Houston and I had fun today selecting fabrics for my quilt. This is definitely my NEW YEAR project!

I want to teach this Block of the Month here on Vancouver Island. Interested?  Where?

Leave a comment and I'll see what I can do about scheduling this fun project.

It will happen mid to late 2017 I think. Must get MY quilt done first!

One Wonderful Curve - Book Review

I have been meaning to tell you about this great book for a few months but time seems to get away from me. One Wonderful Curve is the 2nd book by the wonderful designers from Sew Kind of Wonderful.

These are contemporary quilts and each one uses the Quick Curve Ruler designed by sisters Jenny, Helen and Sherilyn.  I have taught several workshops using this ruler and the QCR Mini ruler and students learned how to cut the perfect curves and sew perfect blocks very easily. I love tools that can be used over and over again - and the Quick Curve Ruler fits my requirement well.

This book has patterns for 12 quilts and each one is very appealing.  This is not a book where you'll like just one or 2 designs.  I'm sure you will want to make them all!

The Techniques section is well-illustrated, showing how to cut and then sew the curves. Close-up photographs are very helpful in this section.

Projects range in size and complexity. The first project, Summer Citrus Runner, is easy for quilters who are new to the technique and for anyone wanting a quick project.

There are wall-size projects and full bed-size projects in the book.

My personal favourite is Moroccan Vibe Quilt. I have a collection of fabrics I bought in Hawaii last February and just need a couple more to find and then I can get started on this quilt.

One other thing I LOVE about the book is the photography. I can really SEE how each project was quilted.  A bonus at the back of the book are Quilting Suggestions to help with this part of your project too.

Although I wasn't able to attend Spring Quilt Market this year I found this photo of the Sew Kind of Wonderful booth taken by Quilters Newsletter Magazine.

I'll be watching for new patterns for quilts displayed here!

You can buy the book (and a wide range of patterns)
directly from the gals at Sew Kind of Wonderful.

Book Review - Contemporary Curved Quilts

If you've been following my project posts for a while you will notice that I have been working with the Quick Curve Ruler® since last October. This is the invention of sisters Jenny Pedigo and Helen Robinson of Sew Kind of Wonderful

Today I'd like to tell you about their first book, Contemporary Curved Quilts. The book includes a well illustrated 'Techniques' section at the beginning of the book. The step by step instructions show you how to cut the curves with the ruler and your rotary cutter. Then they show you how to machine piece the curves without pinning. The result is the pieced curve shape that is used for the 8 projects included in the book.

The first project (Crazy Eights Pillow) is a small project, perfect for giving the technique a try. The following projects build on your skills and include a Table Runner, full-size quilts and a wall hanging.

All the projects are beautifully photographed and I love how you can see the amazing quilting for each project too.

Several of these projects are on my 'to do' list including the Tulip Festival Quilt.

Catching up............

I can't believe we are already more than half way through November! And I haven't shared any news for more than 2 weeks.

So what have I been doing? Recovering from Quilt Market - I caught a cold a couple of days after I got back from Houston so that set me back for a few days. Then I had lots of follow-ups to do after Market.

A family dinner and spending time with my Granddaughter (after I recovered from the cold) were also scheduled. I made her first Christmas Stocking - nice and big so it will last for years and years.  The pocket is made from a sample panel of flannel fabric. There are 5 other panels with the snowman doing different things. Another project is in the works for those panels. I'll share the results after Christmas.

Decorative Machine stitching - just a bit of GLITZ!

I travelled to Snip & Stitch Sewing Centre in Nanaimo last week to talk about what is NEW in the quilting world and show the upcoming fabric collections from Northcott. Several students also joined me for a 'Demo and Make/Take' Day. I showed students how they can use Strip-Rs and No-Sew Circles fabrics to make some amazing projects.

No-Sew circles make this project quick and EASY!
Strip-R's - the fastest way to Bargello!

Students used my 'Ripless Paper Piecing' technique to make a Winter Tree Mug Rug. The new Clover Wedge Iron worked beautifully for paper piecing. Compact, thin sole so pressing is perfect and it heats up quickly and hot enough to use for all your patchwork and paper piecing projects.

I demo'd a couple of  rulers from Sew Kind of Wonderful. The original Quick Curve Ruler can be used for an amazing array of projects. Here's my demo sample.

The Quick Curve Mini is their latest offering. Check out all the arrangements that can be made with these blocks.

And here is a photo from their booth at Quilt Market. They have written lots of patterns for both rulers and also have a book with new projects and ideas.

Kathy, the shop owner, hosted me overnight at her home. She's getting ready for the holidays too. Check out these PJs her grandchildren will be receiving.....and even some for the DOLLY! She used Northcott's Lumberjack Flannel - so soft and cuddly and CUTE!

Dolly needs PJs too!

And, if that wasn't enough to keep me HOPPING in the last few weeks.....I have also written and published TWO NEW PATTERNS!

First up is CRISSCROSS - bold, graphic, easy strip piecing! Fabrics are from Northcott's Artisan Spirit collection Painter's Passion. You can also select your favourite 5 high contrast fabrics to make this 80" square quilt.

I designed Gemstone to showcase upcoming Island Batik fabrics - and I loved this design so much that I made it with the batik...................

and for my friend Jill as a 'Welcome Home' gift....................

and still another version for my granddaughter!

I've got another wallhanging size ready for binding. That will be next week's project.  I'll do a tutorial about how I sew my binding completely by machine. Stay tuned......

These new patterns are available in the Patchworks Studio Store.

Wow...this has been a LONG blogpost....but lots to catch up on.  Talk to you next week!
