Christmas Blog Hop - Elegant Strip Table Runner & Scotty's Nest Eggs

Welcome to the Canadian designers Christmas Blog Hop. Did you enjoy Dougal's 'Mittens 5 Ways' posted last Sunday?  Her decorated mitten cookies would make a great gift - inside a bag decorated with the same mitten design.

I've created a fun and easy table runner that is very quick to make for yourself and for gift giving.

BONUS: I have 3 kits available for the Elegant Strip Table Runner. Sign up for my bi-monthly email newsletter by November 6th and I will draw one name  and mail a kit to the winner. The link to sign up is in the sidebar.

If you already receive my newsletter, leave a comment here on the blog and you will be entered into the draw too.

The remaining kits are available for sale at my Patchworks Studio store.

One of my favourite Christmas recipes is Scotty's Nest Eggs, the dish I serve for breakfast on Christmas morning. I tried one of those 'strata' dishes (with the bread, eggs, cheese - you know the one, you make it the night before and then bake it in the morning). Well, my children didn't really like it!  This recipe has most of the same ingredients, it is easy to prepare and they still look like eggs. Funny how appearance seems to matter to them!  I get the coffee started and the juice poured while the oven is heating, pop the Nest Eggs in and wait for the rave reviews.

It is a tradition in our house that we are allowed to open stockings first but opening presents waits until we eat breakfast and tidy up. This was passed down from my grandmother and I bet my children will do the same with their children. Do you have holiday traditions that go back generations?

Scotty's Nest Eggs

For each 'nest':
2-3 thin slices black forest or honey ham
1 egg
1 tbsp. cream
1 tbsp. grated Swiss or mozzerella cheese
optional: sprinkle of basil
toasted English muffin

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Spray large muffin tins with non-stick spray. Line each cup with ham and break an egg over the top. Add cream, sprinkle with cheese and basil. Bake 20 minutes.  Serve on half of a toasted English muffin.
HINT: place water in any unused muffin cups to prevent damage - I NEVER have to do this! I make a full dozen.

Be sure to come back next Sunday to meet another Canadian designer.

Love the pattern Daphne and would love to win the kit :) Also will be trying your recipe for Scotty's Nest Eggs, looks yummy. We always have the Christmas morning Wife Saver, started the year our son was born and we've had it every year since then.

Thanks very much for the great pattern and recipe. But I don't think I'll wait til Christmas to try out that breakfast treat.

I just signed up for the newsletter. I'm working on my first runner; a gift for my sister's birthday next month. I made it reversable so she can use it for more than just one season or color scheme.
This past Christmas I tried a very similar idea for our breakfast, but I had cooked the ham/bacon seperate and only did eggs in the cups. I had a tray with all the fixings so people could build their own sandwich, but I like the ham cups much better...this next Christmas will probably have these :).

Thanks for the great pattern and looking forward to the kit, I really liked the material you used.
I have made the overnight egg dish with sausage for Christmas going on 50 years, was easy to feed the family and get ready for the big Christmas dinner.
This web site blog why of hop hopping is great fun. Thanks for being a part of it. Will look forward to your news letters. Jean

Dear daphne,
I think your mother and mine might have gone to the same school of traditions. We always had breakfast and then opened our stockings ( well except for one year when I was young and my siblings and I opened the presents before my mom got home from work) That was not a fun Christmas and even now I don't open presents that come in the mail before the actual date of the event.
In our home we do a variation of your breakfast eggs- we do egg mcmuffin type eggs with back bacon and cheddar cheese. We always have sparkling apple juice. This will be the first year our grown son will not be with us at Christmas. He and his girl live in Charlottetown which is a long way from Edmonton. I am not sure what new traditions we will have now.
Thanks for the table runner pattern.
I am off to sign up for your newsletter.
Regards,
Anna
