Cruisin'

Although it is still summer I am beginning to get excited about January 2012 - my quilting cruise to the Caribbean! I have been preparing by gathering fabrics and products for the class kits. My Caribbean Cottages project is hand stitched and I used some hand-dyed threads I bought last year in Houston. I wondered if I could hand-dye threads too?

My friend and business partner, Susan, joined me and students in my Fibre Art Fridays group for a dyeing day last month. A wonderful side-benefit of inviting Susan to teach us how to create colourful fabric: I had to clean out our garage so we would have a place to work. I can't believe how tidy the space is - we can open the car doors wide now! And my local 'charity shop' also benefitted. Of course there were a couple of trips to the recycling center too.

Back to the dyeing. It was the first time for a couple of students - they had so much fun choosing colours and deciding which fabrics would be that colour. I dyed threads, fabrics and I even dyed a white shirt that will look smashing on the cruise.

We'll be sailing on Holland America's MS Noordam for 10 luxurious days visiting Grand Turk, Samana in the Dominican Republic, Bonaire, Curacao and Aruba.

I have just started looking at the Shore Excursions to see what we can do when we're in  port. We don't hold classes then, only when we're 'at sea' so our students can book tours and see as much as possible in that part of the world.

My mother and my husband are joining me for this trip so the three of us will see what Excursions we most want to do as well. I find planning for a trip like this is part of the fun - don't you?

We have two wonderful people escorting our cruise. John and Margaret Rumsby have extensive travel and cruising experience and will be happy to answer any questions you have about the cruise, our pre-cruise tour in Fort Lauderdale and any other questions. John can be contacted by email: jrumsby@cruiseshipcenters.com  or you can reach him by phone: TOLL FREE: 1-866-477-4898

I hope you will consider joining us - we have such a great time!

Yes Cheryl - you SHOULD join us. Wouldn't it be nice to play in the sun in January! We'd love to see you. You'll be at Market this fall, right? We are releasing the new book, a DVD with Nine-Patch media and whatever other 'trouble' we can get into! I'm also teaching all through Festival this time.
