Another 'pattern' quilt.

I love receiving pictures from quilter's who make quilts that I designed. This one is very special indeed.

My first published magazine article was for American Patchwork and Quilting in 2001. I fell in love with one of Sandy Gervais' first fabric collections at my local quilt shop, Satin Moon. I played with Electric Quilt and BlockBase software and the traditional block Sunny Lanes. It was amazing how many different arrangements there could be with this ONE block.

Here is the page from the magazine showing my quilt.

And here is the picture I received via Facebook on February 7 this year from Line Paquet from Saint-Ulric, Quebec. This is what Line says about the quilt:

Here is my last quilt. Pattern available in American Patchwork & Quilting, April 2001. I decided to donate it to a Foundation that can withdraw funds at a fundraiser. I am very proud!

I am so pleased that this is a donation quilt and Line did an amazing job!

Anyone interested in having me publish this pattern?  Let me know and I'll put it 'on the list'!

Irish Quilting Magazine

The latest issue of Irish Quilting features my Stonehenge Stained Glass quilt. I really love the versatility of this fabric line from Northcott. I have used it for two patterns (Splashed! and Winter Magic) and the article quilt.
The wallhanging features my Too Easy Stained Glass technique featured in my book Simple Stained Glass Quilts - no bias, no glue! You can see pictures of the quilts included in the book on my website.

Quilt Project Article - McCall's Quick Quilts

My Temari Puzzle quilt is featured in the upcoming issue of McCall's Quick Quilts. The February/March 2010 issue will be on your newstands and in quilt shops in the next week. The fabrics in my quilt are Flight of the Dancing Cranes by Northcott. It was a beautiful set of fabrics to work with.

Along with the quilt I also designed and made Euroshams and pillowcases to match. Euroshams are covers for 28" square pillows. They look lovely on a bed and are great to lean against if you are reading in bed. The patterns for these projects are posted on the McCall's website as 'Bonus' projects to accompany the magazine.

The quilt is very easy to make - just nine large blocks to make a 92 1/2" square quilt! I'd love to see pictures of your quilts.

Rise and Shine - Design Update

Some of you may wonder how I design patterns and magazine articles. I LOVE using Electric Quilt software because it lets me see exactly what my quilt or project will look like before I cut even one piece of fabric! The Electric Quilt Company asked me to tell them a bit about my design process and they've posted my info on the EQ Blog. Why not go and check it out!

I love how they took a picture of the magazine pages. I don't have a copy yet (being in Canada it takes a bit longer for our newsstands to get them and my quilt and complimentary magazine copy are somewhere between here and Golden, Colorado). McCall's even put a picture of me. How exciting is that!

McCall's Quilting - 100th Issue!

The newest issue of McCall's Quilting is the 100th issue and I have a new Give & Take Applique design in the magazine. Rise & Shine features fast fused squares set as sashed blocks to create graphic sun motifs in this appealing wall-hanging or table topper.

I'm thrilled to be in this issue particularly since I remember the OLD McCall's Needlework & Crafts magazines that my mother collected in the 1960's. She made many projects from the magazines including some wonderful knitted items for my Barbie dolls.

A kit of fabrics for the Rise & Shine quilt top and binding is available while supplies last for $50.60 ppd. (NJ residents, $53.42 ppd.) from Pickle Road Studios, LLC, 13 Pickle Road, Califon, NJ 07830; 908-876-1208; MarkLipinski.com.

McCall's Qulting - America Makes Fast Quilts

Patchworks Studio is published again! This time in a special McCall's Quilting publication, America Makes Fast Quilts. And those of you who have joined us in classes or bought our patterns or our book know that Too Easy Stained Glass is THE simplest and fastest way to make a Stained Glass Quilt!
You will want to make our design called Stained Glass View. We have fabrics that are suitable on our website (not the exact one in the pattern - unfortunately that's long gone). I will be looking for more of these types of landscape prints when I'm in Houston for International Quilt Market in a few weeks. So, stay tuned to our website to see what I find.

Here's the project that you can make with our easy instructions and pattern in the magazine.

Latest Articles

I've had two patterns published in magazines in the last few weeks. Both quilts were made when Susan and I were creating the projects for our most recent book Fat Quarter Frenzy Two.

First is 'On the Road to School', a 70" square bed quilt that includes a traditional schoolhouse block, road blocks and arrow blocks. I used a variety of fall colours for my quilt since September always means 'back to school for me'. You'll find the pattern in Quilter's World, October 2008. You can subscribe to Quilter's World here.

The second pattern is in a special publication from McCall's Quilting - America Makes Fast Quilts. Rambling Rows is a lap-size quilt with rows of pieced blocks and appliqued flowers, vines and leaves. The rows are made using a selection of fat quarters, many bought in Houston at Quilt Market. You can order the magazine from McCall's Quilting or check your local quilt shop for copies. I really love the way the quilt was 'styled' for the magazine - and isn't that puppy just ADORABLE! She's not mine but my friend has one just like her.

Upcoming Magazine Article

My 'On the Road to School' quilt will be featured in the next issue of Quilter's World magazine. This is a 'fat quarter' quilt that combines traditional schoolhouse, Jacob's ladder and my 'road sign' blocks to make a 70" square quilt. Watch for this issue on newstands soon.
