In July I travelled with 3 friends to La Conner, Washington, to see an exhibit of Japanese quilts at the La Conner Quilt & Textile Museum. The exhibit includes pieces made by 14 Japanese quilters. I met these delightful ladies before their show opened when they visited Victoria for a weekend. We had tea at the Empress before I took them to Satin Moon Quilt Shop.
The quilts were wonderful - most hand pieced and hand quilted and all using kimono silk. We spent several hours touring the museum. The first floor has some of the permanent collection on display, 2nd floor were the quilts and the 3rd floor had an exhibit of Japanese textiles, curated by Miwako Kimura.
This lovely kimono and the crazy quilt were displayed on the first floor.
After the museum we checked out the shops and displays in La Conner. And this was just Day 1 of our trip.
The next morning we were off to the Seattle area for some shopping and visits to quilt shops. First quilt shop was Quiltworks Northwest. Here we are in the shop after we've made all our purchases - we're still raring to go!
Next stop was Pike Place Market - clam chowder for lunch. A quick trip to Undercover Quilts and the Seattle Art Museum. By then it was after 5 pm and we slowly made our way back to our hotel (with a stop at the outlet mall!)
On our last day we checked out the shops along the main street in Anacortes (where we would catch the ferry back to Sidney). What a lovely town! The next time we'll plan to spend more time here. We visited two quilt shops and picked up lunch from the Gere-a-Deli and were off to the ferry. What a fun, whirlwind trip we had!
