Braving the Elements

The Elements: Earth, Air, Fire, and Water. That was the theme for the 2008 Journal Quilts challenge. The QuiltArt community, from which all Journal Quilts come, wanted to see those that won't be hung at Festival this year.

Linda Minton volunteered to organize an on-line show of the quilts "released" due to space requirements for the show in Houston. The show 'Braving the Elements' is now online for you to see. G. Armour Van Horn (Van) volunteered to handle the technical aspects of creating the on-line exhibit and I thank both Linda and Van for presenting such a wonderful show.

I have a piece in the show. 'Blue Ocean, Turquoise Sea' uses my sheer collage technique. It is machine pieced, collaged, embroidered and hand beaded. Here are some closeups of the piece.

Fabric Photo Books

Alecia was in my Fabric Photo Books class at Satin Moon this summer. She wanted to create a book for her inlaws' 50th Anniversary and we worked on the layout and design during the class. She has just sent me pictures of her book. I think it is a beautiful gift!

Fabric Painting

One evening last week I had a fabric painting session with my daughter Lindsay. We started with fabrics that I had hand-dyed and then let the paint and stamps flow. We had great fun and made some great pieces that I will incorporate in some new projects.

I even sold a couple of pieces to Carol Seeley at the Fibre Art Network retreat over the weekend. Here are Carol's pieces:

The Quilt Show - October 27th

Our episode of The Quilt Show will air on Monday! You can see a slide show of pictures taken by Gregory Case during the filming here:
http://www.thequiltshow.com/os/slideshows.php
and then be sure to join this great on-line community so you can see our show on Monday.

Here we are after the filming with Alex Anderson and Ricky Tims.

In the background are two quilts from our book Fat Quarter Frenzy Two and our pattern quilt 'Ventian Scroll'. You'll see more book quilts, how easy our Give & Take Applique method is, and our Too Easy Stained Glass technique on the show.

Westshore Quilters' Guild

I taught a one-day Little Landscape Quilts workshop for the Westshore Quilters' Guild at the end of September. We had a great day! Here are some hard-working students and the results of their efforts. Well done everyone!
